Learning Designed for the Whole Child
We are transitioning to Learning Beyond Paper as our primary curriculum while continuing to supplement learning with Frog Street resources. Together, these early childhood resources help teachers create intentional, age-appropriate learning experiences that support important developmental milestones.
Beyond the curriculum, our teachers enrich each classroom with hands-on projects, sensory experiences, creative exploration, and interactive activities that spark curiosity and make learning meaningful. This well-rounded approach helps children discover their strengths, build confidence, and grow toward their fullest potential.
Growing Curious Minds
Through developmentally appropriate activities and thoughtful instruction, children learn to ask questions, think critically, solve problems, and explore their creativity. Teachers encourage curiosity and help children develop confidence and a genuine love of learning.
Moving, Growing & Staying Healthy
Children learn with their whole bodies, so movement and healthy habits are woven throughout each day. Sensory experiences, nutritious choices, motor-skill development, and engaging physical play support coordination, strength, independence, and overall well-being.

More Ways to Move, Create & Grow
Learning at the UMCC Child Development Center extends beyond the classroom curriculum. These special enrichment programs are included in tuition and give children additional opportunities to discover music, movement, storytelling, and faith.
Music
A dedicated music instructor visits each classroom for an age-appropriate music experience.

Infants, Pre-Toddlers, and Toddlers enjoy 10–15 minutes of songs, instruments, and playful sound exploration.

Older children participate in 20–30 minute sessions featuring singing, rhythm, movement, and introductions to different instruments.
Creative Dramatics
Our Preschool class welcomes a visiting dramatics instructor for a special 30-minute storytelling experience. After hearing a story, children help bring it to life through costumes, props, puppetry, imaginative movement, and role-play—building creativity, confidence, communication skills, and cooperation.
Fitness Stars
Children ages 18 months through preschool participate in Stretch ’N Grow, a special weekly physical education program. Through energetic, age-appropriate activities, children develop coordination, strength, motor skills, body awareness, and healthy movement habits—all while having fun.
Chapel
Early Learners and Preschool students gather in the UUMC Sanctuary for a special, child-friendly chapel service led by University United Methodist Church’s Director of University Kids. Through stories, songs, prayer, and interactive moments, children learn that God loves them, they belong, and they are a blessing.
Even More to Explore
Families may add these special programs for an additional fee. Outside instructors bring each program directly to the UUMC Child Development Center so children can participate during their school day.
Soccer Shots
A Soccer Shots coach visits weekly to work with children ages 2–4 in age-based groups on our playground. Through drills, ball control, and skill-building activities, children develop coordination, confidence, teamwork, listening skills, and the ability to follow directions.
Dance Stars
A Dance Stars instructor leads weekly, age-based classes for children ages 2–4 in our indoor playground. Children build coordination, balance, confidence, and a love of movement through ballet and jazz during the school year and hip-hop and cheer during the summer.
Programs, schedules, and fees are determined by the outside providers and may change.
Teachers Who Help Children Thrive
Just as we build a strong foundation for every child’s future, we invest in the growth of our educators. Our teachers receive regular online and in-person training to stay current on child development, classroom practices, and high-quality early education.
We also support educators pursuing the nationally recognized Child Development Associate credential through our CDA Preparation Program. Our highly trained team is deeply passionate about early childhood education, and many staff members have been part of our UMCC Child Development Center community for five years or more—providing children and families with experience, consistency, and compassionate care.

Kari Hinz
Kari joined UUMC Child Development Center in 2019 and is passionate about creating an environment where children, families, and educators can thrive. She is grateful to lead a dedicated team and looks forward to welcoming each new family into the UUMC Child Development Center community.
Assistant UUMC Child Development Center Director
Virginia Solis
Virginia joined University Child Development Center in 2022. She loves supporting educators, children, and families as they learn and grow together. Through the UUMC Child Development Center' close partnership with University United Methodist Church, Virginia also helps families build a foundation of faith rooted in a simple, joyful message: God loves you, we love you, and you are a blessing.

Mary has served UUMC Child Development Center families since 2006. She loves watching children and families grow and is always ready to help new families feel informed, supported, and at home.
