About the event

Sons Documentary Screening | University UMC

University United Methodist Church will host a special free screening of Sons, a powerful 2025 documentary about the war in Ukraine and its impact on families and communities worldwide.

Sons is a documentary by Missouri firefighters and filmmakers Eli Davidson and Jeff Weeks, created in collaboration with Ukrainian humanitarian Andriy Kolbovsky. The film follows the lives of Ukrainian families during the ongoing war, focusing especially on the stories of the Kolbovsky and Hertweck families. Through these parallel father-and-son stories, the film explores themes of sacrifice, grief, resilience, and hope.

The documentary is part of an ambitious 10-year film project documenting the conflict and its long-term impact on families and communities. Davidson and Weeks began the project after watching the war unfold on television in their fire station, determined to move beyond brief news clips and share unfiltered stories from the people living through the conflict.
