Christmas In Fort Worth
with University UMC

Advent is a period of preparation for the arrival of Jesus. It's a season of hope of anticipation, of recognizing our need for a savior. It culminates in the celebration of our Lord, Jesus Christ, traditionally celebrated on Christmas. Right now, whether you feel great joy, sadness, excitement, confusion, or simply need to be reminded you don't have walk alone this season, we hope you'll consider serving, celebrating, and worshiping with us at University United Methodist this month as we create a memorable and meaningful Christmas in Fort Worth.

Let's celebrate!

December 24 (Tue) at 7pm

Christmas Eve candlelight service

Christ the Savior is born! Bring the whole family to a special, music-filled worship service in our sanctuary. Worship in song, in reading Scriptures, and prayer. Featuring our friend, TCU harp player (and Funkytown Music Academy instructor!) Lyndsey Walker Talancón.

Every Sunday in December

Worship services

Make friends, refocus on what's important, have a moment with God and your neighbors seeking God's kingdom, sing familiar and new Christmas and Advent songs, hear thoughtful and inspiring message related to what Christmas in Fort Worth truly could be... with you jumping on board!  Sunday mornings with Heritage at 10am in the church sanctuary (carols, choir, organ, liturgy) or with Community at 11am in Community Hall (casual, modern, interactive, extended prayer time).

Serve: December 1 (Sunday), 12pm

Presbyterian Night Shelter

Stick around after Community wraps up, wash your hands, roll your sleeves up, and help make sandwiches and put together 300 sack lunches for our neighbors served by the Night Shelter. It's about 40 minutes of time, makes a difference in the life of homeless folks working to get jobs and get on their feet, it's easy for kids and adults, and you'll make some friends!

December 9 (Monday), 7pm

Shalom: a service of peace + hope

The holidays can bring complex feelings when the world around is busy and bright, but you may be experiencing loneliness, grief, or a difficult time in your life. Let's sit together in this moment, reflect on the year, express what we're going through, and remind ourselves that darkness is overcome by the light of the world, Jesus Christ. Email Pastor Yvonne for additional details.

Serve: December 8 (Sun) & 17 (Tue)

Angel Tree & Evening of Angels

UUMC is reaching out to Berry Sweet Babies and Westcliff Elementary school families who could use a bit of extra Christmas cheer this season. Grab your "Angel" from our Sign Up Genius, purchase the outfit and toys requested (this is a great chance to partner with a neighbor, coworker, or social group), wrap 'em, and bring them by the church by December 8. THEN... on Tuesday evening December 17, help UUMC throw a very fun party for the Angels and their families. Host games, serve snacks, share a few laughs as we distribute gifts to our neighbors. Email Pastor Yvonne with questions.

Grow: Sundays OR Wednesdays in December

Christmas & Christ Myths Advent Bible study

Mary and Joseph with Baby Jesus in the manger ... Shepherds, Angels, Evil Kings and Wise Men... We all know the Christmas Story, but do we really? Join Chris May in December for an Advent study, Christmas/Christ"myths". Dive into what is actually written in the Bible and what we know about the culture and events going on at that time. We'll try to separate the "real" story from the "myths" that have built up over the centuries to get a greater appreciation of how amazing the story, and the people at its heart, really are. Meeting Sundays at 10:00am (Dec 1, 8, & 15) or Wednesdays at 6:30pm (Dec 5, 12, & 19). Pick the time/day that works for you! Email Chris for details.
