The name Project–44 comes from the 44th book of the Bible – THE BOOK OF ACTS. We strive to live the acts of the disciples on a daily basis to the best of our abilities. We will imitate Christ and do this by seeking to be as faithful to the human vocation as He was.Project-44 began with auto ministry, fixing and donating cars to those in need. It grew into garden ministry with the UUMC community garden. It is now opening doors to those in need of counseling – Sanctuary. For more about Project-44 and Sanctuary, click on the logo or contact Ben Fields, founding member.

In April of 2002 the United Methodist Committee on Relief partnered with Equal Exchange in order to start a coffee program which would benefit thousands of world farmers trapped in their own cycle of poverty. The small farmers live in isolated communities which forces them to sell their beans at the lowest of low prices to mid-level brokers who in turn sell to the big corporations. Over 1,300 United Methodist churches, of which UUMC is one, have committed to buying Fair Trade Coffee so that the farmers will receive a fair market value for their coffee and also have access to co-op services such as health care, education and training.
